Shiatsu – Chair, Table and Floor Treatments – What’s The Difference?
Here at the Shiatsu Academy, prospective clients are sometimes confused when asked what type of Shiatsu Massage Therapy they are looking to receive.
At our clinics, we offer three options for those seeking a therapeutic massage.
An interested client has the option of receiving Shiatsu Massage Therapy on a massage chair, a massage table or on a floor mat, which is the more traditional method for conducting Shiatsu Massage.
When requesting a therapeutic massage session, a client should keep a few things in mind.
• How much time is available at their disposal?
• Does the client have any physical limitations that would prevent them from taking any of the positions required for the session?
• Does the client have any special areas of the body that needs to be addressed?
• What can the client’s budget afford?
At the Shiatsu Academy our Student Clinic rates are some of the most reasonably priced for Shiatsu Massage in Toronto. Financial affordability is hardly an issue.
At our academy, we stress to our students that the body should be treated as an integrated whole. With this in mind, clients are advised to avail themselves of a full-body therapeutic massage, on either a massage table or floor mat.
In either a table or floor session THE ENTIRE BODY is treated. Our therapists can apply the necessary pressures more effectively on the floor mat so we tend to recommend floor treatments for full-body massages. Some larger-bodied clients may also find that the table environment offers limited options for placement of hands and feet when they are required to change positions throughout the massage session. On the other hand, we do encounter clients who experience difficulties lowering themselves to a position on the floor. The most common reasons for this are joint pains and diminished flexibility. In these situations, we do offer our full-body therapeutic massages on a massage table.
Our chair shiatsu sessions are favoured by clients who are pressed for time but still seek relief from the tension-inducing effects of prolonged hours in a seated position.
Our chair sessions focus on the head, neck, shoulders, upper and lower back, and the arms all the way down to the fingers. If time is of the essence, but the tensions are there, we suggest a thirty-minute session on the massage chair.
